A/C Diagnostics and Repair

Have a broken or weak car air conditioner? Don’t sweat it. (ha ha!)

A vehicle without cool air conditioning can be a sweaty and uncomfortable ride. A properly working A/C keeps you and everyone else in the vehicle comfortable and cool all the way to your destination. If your car air conditioner isn’t working, EPR can help. We are adept at diagnosing and fixing A/C problems in all kinds of cars and trucks.

Common A/C problems include:

  • Hot air blowing out of the A/C
  • Lack of pressure when the air blows out
  • Failure to blow air at all

How A/C Works:

Your vehicle’s air conditioning system cools and removes moisture from the air inside of your vehicle using three main components: the compressor, the condenser and the evaporator.

The compressor, driven by the vehicle’s drive belt, pumps the refrigerant through the A/C system. Inside this closed system, the refrigerant is exposed to high and low pressure, forcing it to change states between gas and liquid in order to capture and then release heat. While in a gas state, the refrigerant passes through the evaporator, capturing heat. The refrigerant then moves through the A/C lines and into the condenser, where the refrigerant cools as heat is released outside of the passenger compartment, and the refrigerant returns to a liquid.

For the system to work optimally, the system must have the proper amount of refrigerant and be free of contaminants.

A/C Diagnostics

When you bring your car into EPR we can perform an A/C Performance Check to diagnose why the car is having a cooling problem and what needs to be repaired or replaced. Car A/C problems can come from many different sources, such as freon leaks from cracked o-ring seals in the air conditioning lines, worn out filters and condensers, loose wires, excessive heat radiation from the engine, and more. We visually inspect the air conditioning compressor drive belt, serpentine belt and all accessible components for cracks, leaks and damage. Then we check the operation of the air conditioning compressor. Our technicians will figure out the root of your car’s A/C problem and get it working quickly.

A/C Repair

After the diagnosis is done, EPR can repair all of the components of your vehicle’s A/C, including:

  • O-rings, seals and hoses
  • Compressors and compressor clutches
  • Evaporators and condensers
  • Driers, receivers and accumulators
  • Switches, controls, modules and relays
  • Blower motors and resistors

A/C Refrigerant Recharge

Of course, it could just be that your A/C needs to be recharged. If no leaks or damage are found during the diagnostic and inspection process, EPR can evacuate the refrigerant from the system, vacuum test and recharge the air conditioning system using the appropriate refrigerant according to your vehicle manufacturer’s specification.  We then inspect the  A/C system’s pressure and temperature control to make sure everything is working correctly for you.

If you notice that your vehicle’s A/C isn’t cooling very well any more, bring it on in to EPR Automotive and we’ll get you cool for summer!
